Moria (Hurricon 2016)
Moria (Hurricon 2016)

My sister Kylie and I were lucky enough to get the chance to play on the awesome “Battle for Moria” table at Hurricon 2016. The game was played with Games Workshop’s Middle Earth ruleset. I played as the one of the goblin hordes while Kylie took control of a group of dwarven rangers.

Balin's Tomb
Balin's Tomb

A side shot of my favorite section of the board: Balin’s tomb. The goblin army was trying to score VPs by defiling the tomb. This made for an awesome showdown, although the dwarves ultimately kept us at bay, for now anyway… If you listen carefully, you can still hear “drums… drums in the deep…”

Cave Troll
Cave Troll

The goblins, true to their nature, sent the cave troll into Balin’s Tomb first. I think the model that can be seen right over the cave troll’s shoulder is either a giant spider or one of the giant bats.

The Balrog
The Balrog

About halfway through the battle, The Balrog was awoken. It moved around the board randomly, wreaking havoc on whoever got in its way. Despite what the picture might suggest, It ended up doing more damage to the goblin army than the dwarves.
